Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer And Windows Server 2012

1. Goal The main idea behind this lab was to relocate the DHCP server and master DNS server to a fresh install of Windows Server 2012. This would allow control over most of the network with Windows Server 2012 while maintaining a slave DNS server on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 box. A basic install of Active Directory was also implemented, allowing a single client to connect to the bestnet.local domain. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer was also implemented to determine any outlying security risks associated with the Windows Server 2012. This lab took the knowledge that I gained from in-class lectures and previous experiences, and allowed me to implement Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS flawlessly on Windows Server 2012. It helped me to understand how Active Directory and DNS are linked together to tie a domain together and populate that domain. By playing around in Active Directory, I was able to gain valuable knowledge of how to implement many features and roles directly relate d to an Active Directory installation. 2. Procedural and Informational Documentation All information pertaining to my virtual network can be found at the address http://10.0.15.1/wiki or http://wiki.bestnet.local/wiki/ when inside my infrastructure. It contains all the information needed to understand how I built and configured my virtual machines, and how I installed and configured each of my servers. It is broken up by specific Operating System installs, so there is are sections forShow MoreRelatedImplementing A Windows 2012 Data Server Onto The Virtual Network Used By The Previous Labs1588 Words   |  7 Pages1. Goal / Introduction The main goal for this lab exercise was to implement a Windows 2012 Data Server onto the virtual network used by the previous labs. Sever services including DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), DNS (Domain Name Service), AD (Active Directory), and Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. DNS also known as Domain Name Service is a network service used for distributing domain names and mapping IP addresses to them and keeping track of connections on the local level. Also the DNS and DHCP services were monitored with the help of a monitoring system like OpsviewAtom and Windows Performance Monitor. The role of DHCP is to make sure that clients (Windows 7) can obtain an IP address whereas that of DNS is to make sure that they can access websites within the domain. The steps regarding AD, DNS and DHCP were a refresher as it was covered in a previous class. Many of the same tasks which were completed using a RHEL 7 virtual machine in lab 2, such as setting up DHCP and DNS, are repeated in this lab on a Windows 2012 Datacenter virtual machine. This is done not only to show the differences in service administration, but alsoRead MoreCapstone Project3814 Words   |  16 Pagesï » ¿ Technical Writing Project Cover Sheet Capstone Proposal Project Name: Network Security Survey Student Name: Peter Planica Degree Program: Information Technology – Security Emphasis Mentor Name: Ted Reasoner Capstone Project Waiver/Release Statement Acknowledgement It is the policy of Western Governors University (â€Å"WGU†) that student Capstone projects should not be based upon, and should not include, any proprietary or classified information or material belonging to your employer orRead MoreSetting Up A Windows Server And Install Ad, Dns, And Dhcp1308 Words   |  6 Pages Goal In this lab the goal was to set up a Windows Server 2012 server and install AD, DNS, and DHCP on it. We were also tasked with disabling DHCP on the RHEL7 box so that it would not interfere with DHCP running on the Windows Server. We then had to go through and set the named service on RHEL to be a slave of DNS running on our Windows Server box. I had already set up and configured AD, DNS and DHCP on this server before from a previous lab but I had the services set to disabled so that theyRead MoreManaging Information Technology (7th Edition)239873 Words   |  960 Pagessources and reproduced, with permission, in this textbook appear on appropriate page within the text. How could USAA use its AIS to persuade more shop owners to repair rather than replace their windows? USAA began capturing data on the repair records of the various shops that worked for them. They published this information in the newsletter sent to repair shops. The shops noticed how they compared to other shops and began repairing more windshields
